Day 20 – Unity bring praise unto God

Romans 15:5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God…that is what the Bible says…Let’s face it, we all have our short comings.

At the very beginning of this chapter it says that those of us who are stronger need to be considerate of others whose faith may not be at the same place as ours.

Let’s look at a for instance with this…its been a really long day.  Things at work didn’t go your way.  Your boss didn’t get their coffee before coming to work and that made them on the grumpy side.  He rode your case all day long, nagging about each little thing…pleasing him wasn’t even possible.  The printers made a mistake on the order and it had to be redone, which in turn caused your boss to have to reschedule a meeting it took him months to get…and you were the outlet of his venting!  On top of it all, you have home-group tonight, and he is a part of it.

As you prepare for the evening trying to focus on God, and not your hot headed boss, who is going to be arriving at your home in less than a half hour, you have a choice to make.  You can satisfy your own flesh…which you would feel total justification in doing, after the day you have had or you can be gracious and kind.  Giving a word in due season to encourage and strengthen his faith.

Through their own weakness, they may have said things out of frustration and anger, but if we show love and not alienate them from our affections, we can create a unity of the faith.  Christ, himself, had to bare much even with those who walked closest to Him.  If we take our example from Jesus, we learn, we must bare one another’s burdens.  We must learn to minister strength to them in their times of weakness…learning to be understanding, being more concerned for them than we are for ourselves.

Yes, I concur, this task is a difficult one…

Today, I choose to turn the other cheek, and bring praise to the Lord as I join together with one heart, mind, and mouth, to glorify and bring praise to our King.  May my sacrifice of vindication turn someone’s heart and spirit ever closer to the one we both love!
